There are approximately three million children under the age of 18 living with a grandparent in the United States. Raising a grandchild can be a source of joy and pride. It can also come with special challenges. But much of good parenting and the rewards of raising a child remain the same as they were the first time around.

Love, nurturing, support, and understanding are needs that never change. But some issues -- including health and safety advances, new recommendations about diet and immunizations, technology and education, and sex and violence in the media -- may be very different from the way they were when grandparents' own children were growing up. This presentation provides an overview of what can be involved in raising a grandchild, and will provide information to help grandparents start taking steps to address the issues they face.

The presentation will let you quickly and easily educate parents, grandparents, and other caregivers on:

  • preparing for daily life with the grandchild
  • meeting the child's health, education, and social and emotional needs
  • effective discipline
  • how to maintain good communication
  • legal and financial issues
  • resources where grandparents can find additional help and information.

Package also includes 50 copies of the realistically illustrated booklet "Raising Your Grandchild -- You Are Not Alone!" (75062)A.
